Description
The original Colt Detective Special was produced from 1927–1986 and proved a popular weapon of choice for law enforcement officers, bodyguards and general security personell.
Although at first glance it can easily be mistaken for the popular Smith & Wesson Model 36, side by side the Colt much larger in size, which in terms of concealment would ultimately push some customers towards the Model 36.
After a 6 year break in production, in 1992 Colt released the .38 Special updated design, followed in 1999 with a .357 Magnum calibre version. However this new line was short lived, with Colt ceasing all ‘detective’ production in 2000, as more customers ultimately switched to semi-automatic compact models.
