Description
One of the most widely used handguns in the world, Austrian Gaston Glock designed the original weapon between 1979-1982, naming it the Glock 17.
After entering service with the Austrian military and police force in 1982 (to replace their wartime Walter P38’s), this unique polymer framed handgun rapidly saw itself as the frontrunner of countless overseas trials and within a short period of time, 50 counties had converted their law enforcement and defense agencies over to its use.
As with other successful weapon systems, Glock would go on to develop a host of new models in varying calibre’s, from the standard 9mm to .45 ACP, .380 and .357 to name but a few.
The 18C was developed in 1985 after a direct request from their local counter terrorist unit (EKO Cobra), who were actively seeking a machine pistol. The Glock 18/18C differs from many MP’s on the market, by adopting a selective fire mode (semi-full auto), that is selected via a switch located to the left of the rear-sight.
Due to the high rate of fire when set to fully automatic (20 rounds/sec), the 18C is predominantly used with an extended capacity 33 round magazine, however standard/shorter 9mm magazines can also be used.
