Description
German Heckler & Koch GmbH (H&K) have produced some of the worlds most well known and reliable post-war weapons.
Designed in the late 1960’s, the original MP5 Submachine Gun (SMG) was chambered for the standard 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge, a caliber in wide use throughout NATO.
The basic model was made available with either a fixed or retractable buttstock, with countless variations to follow.
Developed in the 1970’s, the most well known variation is this one (the MP5K), which is the shortened barrel/carbine model. This Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) version of a ‘K’ was developed in 1990, it has the usual foregrip in lieu of a handguard, however it also has a side folding stock, a lugged barrel for the attachment of a suppressor and a four mode trigger group (safe, semi, 3-round burst and full auto). This model is predominantly used by special forces operators and close protection officers/bodyguard’s.
Although many rivals have come onto the market in recent years, the MP5 is still the most widely used submachine gun in the world and is in service with the militaries and police forces of more than 40 nations. As well as official use, news footage often shows them in the hands of private security contractors, cartel members and other criminal originations.
