Description
German Heckler & Koch GmbH (H&K) have produced some of the worlds most well known and reliable post-war weapons.
Designed in the late 1960’s, the original MP5 Submachine Gun (SMG) was chambered for the standard 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge, a caliber in wide use throughout NATO.
The basic model was made available with either a fixed or retractable buttstock, with countless variations to follow.
Developed in the 1970’s, the two most well known variations are this suppressed model (the MP5SD), which was developed in 1974 and has the over-barrel suppressor (which incorporates a modified handguard), and of course the MP5K. Both of these models are predominantly used globally by special forces operators.
Although many rivals have come onto the market in recent years, the MP5 is still the most widely used submachine gun in the world and is in service with the militaries and police forces of more than 40 nations. As well as official use, news footage often shows them in the hands of private security contractors, cartel members and other criminal originations.
