Description
The Uzi Pro is a modernized version of the Micro Uzi, which went into production by Israel Weapon Industries Ltd. (IWI), formerly Israel Military Industries (IMI) in 2010.
Technically the Pro is a very similar to its predecessor, in that it is blowback-operated, closed-bolt submachine gun and fires a 9x19mm cartridge. However the lower housing/pistol grip is entirely made of a polymer to reduce overall weight.
The Pro also features two picatinny rails as standard. One below the barrel, which allows the attachment of a folding foregrip and one on top for additional optics to fitted. If required two additional rails can be fitted either side of the barrel once the foregrip assembly is attached, along with a rather elaborate adjustable stock.
The original Uzi was was developed in 1949 by Israeli designer Uziel Gal and swiftly went into production by Israel Military Industries (IMI) in 1951. Its use with the military and governments of over 90 countries is testament to its reliability and ease of use and up until the mid 1980’s sales of no other SMG on the market came close. Its use with the Secret Service and other more convert agencies lead to the development of smaller more concealable variants and in the 1980’s the Mini and Micro Uzi were born. Unlike the larger original Uzi, these smaller versions could also be fired from a closed bolt.
