Description
The Yugoslavian Zastava M70 is ultimately a licensed copy of the Soviet AK/AKM Assault Rifle.
The Kalashnikov family of weapons was the creation of Russian Mikhail Kalashnikov towards the end of World War Two and without question his design became the most iconic and widely used weapon of the 20th Century.
Internally the AKM and M70 are identical in terms of the action of the mechanism and use of the Soviet 7.62×39mm cartridge. The main differences involve the external appearance, with the M70 handguard sporting three cooling slots as opposed to the standard AKM two, lighter coloured woodwork, a rubber butt plate and a folding rifle grenade sight is fitted to the gas block.
Like all other weapons within the Kalashnikov family, the M70 has seen extensive use since its introduction in 1970. Not only locally, but also by scores of African/Middle Eastern nations, irregular forces, criminal organizations/cartels and terrorist groups.
