Description
Originally developed to provide Polish law enforcement and security forces with a rapid means of deploying tear gas during the Polish Solidarity (trade union) protests that took place in the mid 1980’s.
However, with the fall of the Berlin wall and subsequent collapse of the Soviet Union, the RGA-86 transitioned into becoming a rather successful flare launcher.
It can hold fifteen 26.5mm cartridges in its aluminum cylinder, which is wound prior to firing to create spring tension. The pistol grip and foregrip are exactly the same as those used on the Kalashnikov assault rifle and it also comes with a short downward folding stock (however this is regarded to be of little use).
Although it has limited use in the real world, the RGA-86 is certainly something that with the aid of movie magic, can be simulated to fire anything, whether large explosive ordinance, or even futuristic lasers on the set of a Sci-fi. In fact Tom Berenger and Christopher Walken fire a very similar looking multi-barreled launcher (a 26.5 mm Manville Machine-Projector) with devastating effect in the 1980 film ‘Dogs of War’.
