Description
First produced by Austrian arms company Steyr Mannlicher in 1992, the TMP fires a 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge.
Constructed of a strong, yet lightweight polymer, it can be fired in either semi or fully automatic modes by means of a two-stage trigger system, as used on their AUG assault rifle.
Although only used by a very small number of anti-terrorist forces (Russian, Italian and local Austrian), the TMP is a highly reliable machine pistol which for unknown reasons didn’t see more widespread use.
Due to this, in 2001 Steyr ceased production of the TMP and all rights to its design were purchased by Swiss company Brügger & Thomet. They would immediately create their own updated version, called the MP9, which enjoyed slightly better global sales than the TMP. As with the introduction of a folding stock and various attachment rails, it moved from being seen entirely as a limited use machine pistol, to that of a compact/tactical submachine gun.
