Description
The Tavor X95 is the updated (2009) design of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) TAR-21 bullpup assault rifle.
The main modification was the withdrawing of the cocking/charging handle from beside the muzzle, to directly above the trigger group. As well as the re-positioning of the magazine release catch and reduction in size of the previously bulky buttstock.
As per this variant, the X95 can be converted from a 5.56x45mm assault rifle into a 9x19mm submachine gun, which switches the standard weapon from gas opperated/long-stroke piston to straight blowback/closed bolt.
The success of the X95 has lead to a number of variants, with the main ones being this X95 SMG (9mm conversion), X95-L (fitted with a longer barrel and scope for use by marksmen), X95-R (re-chambered to 5.45×39mm) and the XB16-18’s (the many semi-automatic civilian versions on sale in the United States).
Aside from local use, the X95 has been adopted for use by the police forces of India to Columbia, as well as militaries from Mongolia to Cyprus.
