The UZI Micro stands out as a unique evolution within the UZI family. Initially developed as a semi-automatic pistol, the Micro UZI was reimagined by IMI in 1985 as a compact and effective submachine gun. This transformation involved retaining the lower lip of the bolt, which had been milled off during the manufacture of the semi-automatic version, and removing the selector block from the trigger assembly. A folding stock smaller than that of the Mini UZI was added, and the open ‘U’ notch rear sight was replaced with a traditional ‘peep’ sight. The barrel was lengthened to 5.25 inches, with compensator notches milled into it to reduce muzzle flip and aid control during firing. The result was a weapon with a phenomenally high rate of fire at 1,800 rounds per minute, though it was often fired in semi-automatic mode due to this intense rate of fire.
